Stitch House

Remodeling of a large arts and Crafts home in Wimbledon to untangle its congested interior layout and connect it to the garden.

The original kitchen and service areas of this house were dark and cramped and prevented the owners from enjoying the full potential of this finely built villa.

Our solution was to re-configure and expand the house to include an enlarged kitchen and an informal living space that together re-centre the house between the generous existing reception rooms and the garden.

The extension is made from handmade brick that blends with the existing fabric. The new building allows the existing basement to expand to include a top-lit artist’s studio below the new kitchen.

In an echo of the original house’s generous bay window and porch, we added large windows that frame views of the garden and a new terrace for al fresco dining that allows the life of the house to spill outside in warmer weather.
