Restaurant and Bar

An interior of the The Economist Building, a listed 1960’s office building by the Smithsons in London’s St James’s was transformed to create a new restaurant, bar and cigar room.

Our design for the interior of this restaurant echoes the elegant and somewhat detached coolness of the Smithson’s building whose original function was as a banking hall and offices.

Our design for the bar itself uses back-lit light boxes, developed in collaboration with the artist Martin Richman, which house the bar’s spirits selection and pays homage to the use of abstract composition and colour popular in the 60’s.

Completed whilst Jonathan Tuckey was working for Fletcher Priest Architects.
